In four easy reader-style short stories, readers will find themselves relating to Yasmin's real-life challenges and cheering for her as she saves the day. Delightful full-color illustrations complement and enhance the text. The font is large, bright, and the perfect match for the interest level. In each situation, Yasmin and her friends and family members display kindness, thoughtfulness, and critical thinking skills. Elements of Yasmin's Pakistani American culture and Urdu words are introduced in the stories and defined and discussed in the back matter, which also includes a discussion question for each story, an Urdu language glossary, fun facts about Pakistan, and DIY instructions for creating a paper-bag superhero. The cast of supporting characters includes people from a diverse array of nationalities, abilities and ages. VERDICT This gem of an easy reader is as cheerful and engaging as its protagonist.
