Glazer (founder and CEO of Acceleration Partners, a global partner marketing agency), whose company went remote some years before the COVID-19 pandemic, here promotes the advantages of working from home: ending long commutes, avoiding distractions in open-plan offices, and gaining more time for family and travel, among others. His book is organized into two parts: "The Employee Perspective," and "The Organizational Playbook." "The Employee Perspective" offers practical advice, with case studies, for keeping a schedule, being a collaborative employee, establishing best practices, setting professional and personal boundaries, maintaining health and well-being, creating the right personal workspace, managing the email inbox, and working with technology. "The Organizational Playbook" discusses management perspectives and creating the proper culture through vision, values, goals, consistency, and clarity. Glazer particularly emphasizes recruiting with remote work in mind to help ensure success, and also covers establishing employee training and team building within an organization, having effective meetings, time zone etiquette, technology, and performance management. VERDICT A timely, practical, and highly informative guide to effective techniques for remote work; of benefit to practitioners or students of business. Highly recommended.--Lucy Heckman, St. John's Univ. Lib., Queens Village, NY

Ever since COVID-19 emerged as a global pandemic in March 2020, remote work has become the norm for many companies. This guide from Glazer, CEO of global marketing agency Acceleration Partners, offers advice for how to succeed as a remotely working employee and as a company running a remote operation. One of the key attributes Glazer lists for remote employees is increased productivity. In-person office environments are full of workflow-inhibiting distractions. Besides eliminating these, working from home avoids an often stressful commute. The key to employee success is balancing workflow and setting physical boundaries (maintaining a designated office space). Glazer blends his own company's experience in assessing positives and negatives of remote work, which aids in the book's message. The organization's success lay with a look inward at its culture and principles. Management needs to keep an eye on worker productivity, while also providing worker autonomy and reaching out to employees with effective communication. Glazer provides a positive outlook for a onetime trend fast becoming commonplace reality in this handy guide.
